Name Your Own ExoPlanet: IAU to NIGERIA

The International Astronomical Union (IAU) has asked Nigeria to give a popular name to a selected exoplanet and its host star. 

This is within the framework of IAU100th anniversary commemorations through which  IAU100 NameExoWorlds global competition has been launched. This is to  allow countries in the world including Nigeria to give a popular name to a selected exoplanet and its host star.

Nigeria has been assigned to name STAR- HD 43197 and EXOPLANET- HD 43197 b. Online voting poll has been designed to allow individuals and groups to take part in this task by voting for STAR or EXO-PLANET of their choice, you can also suggest a name of your choice for the star and exo-planet. Within the framework of its 100th anniversary commemorations, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) is organising the IAU100 NameExoWorlds global competition. This allows any country in the world to give a popular name to a selected exoplanet and its host star. Over 70 countries have already signed up to organise national campaigns that will provide the public with an opportunity to vote. The aim of this initiative is to create awareness of our place in the Universe and to reflect on how the Earth would potentially be perceived by a civilisation on another planet. NASRDA-Center for Basic Space Science Nsukka, will Play host to not less than 1000 Participants in the 2018 World Space Week Activity.

The 2018 World Space Week  (WSW) activity being organised by The NASRDA-Center for Basic Space Science will play host to over 1000 students gathering at the Centre for Basic Space Science (CBSS) Nsukka Enugu State.  This will take place on the  4th of October 2018 to commemorate the WSW with activities like Lectures and documentaries on Space exploration and exploitation, planetarium shows, hands-on-exercise on Galileoscope and water rocket assembling and  night sky observations.
